Matthew 5:23-26

So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. Come to terms quickly with your accuser while you are going with him to court, lest your accuser hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you be put in prison. Truly, I say to you, you will never get out until you have paid the last penny.

Note: These verses continue to elaborate on Matthew 5:20 regarding righteousness that “exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees”. Definition of brother.

God is all about love. We were created to love and be loved by God. God is our father, which makes us all brothers. We are meant to act toward each other as loving siblings.

The wicked exist to be sure. How are we to love them, yet not be overcome by them? The balance of love and naivety is difficult to reconcile with scripture. Rose-colored glasses lets evil rule the day. When reason and appeal to peace-making fail, we need scriptural guidance as well.
